Anger Management Activities
You've probably heard all the "common wisdom" techniques for dealing with anger. Count to 10. Take deep breaths. Repeat a calming phrase over and over. You might as well spin around three times and click your heels for all the good these techniques will do you. There is only one way to effectively deal with anger, and that is to understand it.
Understanding your emotions is the basis of "Be Still and Know," a Christian meditation exercise developed by Roy Masters, host of the longest running radio advice show in the nation and author of 16 popular books. Masters prefers to call it an observation exercise, since most forms of meditation are aimed at emptying your mind of thought and emotion. That may make you feel better temporarily, but those negative energies haven't been dissipated, only pushed aside. They will come back with a vengeance.
"Be Still and Know" is aimed at getting you to observe, understand and accept your emotions. By practicing the guided meditation daily, you'll come to know that anger is only a conditioned response, instilled in you early in life. Once you understand that, you can simply let it go and walk in the grace of dispassionate acceptance.
This is a very powerful tool for overcoming negative emotions and regaining your true identity, not one that has been instilled in you. You can download the guided meditation from the FHU website or order it in audiotape, CD or MP3 formats. Dig your anger out by the roots and replace it with serenity and compassion. You're going to love your life.
