The Foundation of Human Understanding is the farthest thing from a cult. Anyone who has listened to Roy Masters on the radio or has seen him on television knows this. He's not some raving, self-righteous, money-hungry preacher that uses his position to lie, deceive, sexually assault, and fleece his followers. (Look at all those televangelists, priests, and religious leaders--churches are breeding grounds for sexual predators. If you don't believe me, just look at some of the headlines. I would be careful about leaving my kids with any of them.) In fact, he doesn't have "followers"; it's more like he has "admirers." His detractors, and there are many, claim he teaches a combination of eastern philosophy and western psychology. Again, they're mistaken; it's a meditation technique, the genesis of which can be found with the Judeo-Christian mystics. This book is about how words, written and spoken, can highly influence someone's behavior or actions, because of the highly suggestible hypnotic state most people are in. He explains how it's not so much the words themselves, but the spirit and meaning behind them, that's important. Lastly, what I feel is the most important aspect of this book is his thoughts on persons who memorize verses and chapters from the Bible, and how they get this sense that they're somehow righteous and good as a result. They "think" they're saved ("Hallelujeh, praise the Lord!") but they're just deceiving themselves. In the silence of your soul, you will see reality. Jesus came here to save us from religion. Also recommended: "The Kaborous Manuscript" - it contains lost pages from the Bible.
